Our Vision

Since 2006, we’ve been committed to helping communities across the nation reduce and ultimately end homelessness. The company reflects Principal Megan Kurteff Schatz’s vision to apply technical skills and systems-level thinking to more effectively prevent, reduce, and end homelessness in communities throughout the country. Megan recognized a need for communities to think more critically about the ways in which they served people experiencing homelessness, and how they allocated resources to those efforts. Megan saw tremendous potential for communities to more effectively and efficiently reduce homelessness through data-driven, strategic planning.

Focus Strategies has since worked alongside our clients to develop and launch rapid re-housing and permanent supportive housing programs and systems. Since 2011, when we launched the Focus Strategies brand with Katharine Gale, Focus Strategies has been particularly focused on supporting communities to successful implement and achieve the goals of Homeless Emergency Assistance and Rapid Transition to Housing (HEARTH) Act. To this day, the HEARTH Act, signed into effect by President Obama, guides the work we do for communities across the country.

Today, Focus Strategies is a nine-person team, based in Sacramento, California. We have worked for a range of clients across the United States, including local and state government agencies, philanthropic entities, and non-profit advocacy and intermediary organizations. In partnership with the National Alliance to End Homelessness, Focus Strategies created a set of tools designed to help communities use local data to understand their current systems’ performance and to model large-scale system changes .
